Five things to consider when choosing dental floss
What are the important things to consider when you are choosing dental floss? There are five things to keep in mind.
Choosing dental floss seems pretty easy. There is not much to choosing what you will use to floss your teeth. However, the right dental floss is important to help you maintain good oral hygiene.
As you look at all the different dental flosses on the shelves, you may think that just anything should work. Well the fact is that some dental flosses are better than others in the fact that some flosses work for one person's teeth a little differently than another person's teeth.
1. Think about the spacing between your teeth. Your teeth have their own unique spacing. With this in mind, waxed floss tends to work better for people who have little space between their teeth.
2. If you need floss that is sturdier and less likely to break, waxed floss works well for these needs.
3. However if you have wide gaps between your teeth, choosing a tape dental floss is a good idea. The tape dental floss is thicker and wider, therefore it makes the flossing easier and more efficient.
4. Choose a dental floss that is pleasant to your taste buds. There are flavored and unflavored flosses. A good hint is that if you take a container of mint dental floss with you, even when you do not have time for brushing the mint floss will freshen your breath with a bit of flossing and some warm water.
5. If dexterity issues are a concern, or if you cannot reach all of your teeth to floss correctly, there are now devices available to reach your teeth and make the process easier. There are power-flossing options that also make this process simpler.
There are many options available for flossing. Anywhere from polymer, and corded flosses, to waxed and nylon. There are flosses that are high tech, and there are the good old fashioned tried and true. Your choice should be what floss fits best for you.
One of the most important part of dental hygiene is dental flossing. Plaque connects to the area between your teeth and under your gums. If this plaque is not removed, then it will become a more serious condition like gum disease and toothing decay. In worse cases, bone deterioration can happen.
Roughly 35% of your teeth will not come clean if you do not floss. This is because brushing can only get to certain parts of your teeth. The floss is the only way to reach into the areas of your teeth that are to small for brushing.
Using the man made fibers for flossing correctly cannot only remove the plaque between your teeth, but it also creates a fresher feeling to your mouth. The bacteria in your mouth cause plaque to build up. This plaque becomes the bad breath you smell. The plaque also builds up on your tongue. That is why brushing your tongue with flossing will help removing the bad breath in your mouth. Mouth washes only assist in this process; they cannot illuminate all of the bacteria, only roughly 40% if it is an antibacterial mouth wash or rinse.
Flossing with good floss that works well with your teeth will help you keep a great smile and healthy teeth. Brushing and mouthwash are only effective with proper use of dental floss.
